Best Vegetarian Restaurants, Budapest

Some of the best vegetarian restaurants in Budapest are as follows:

Govinda Vegetarian Restaurant, Budapest

Govinda Restaurant or Govinda Étterem offers Indian cuisine. There are lots of vegetarian meals at very decent prices, so lunch and dinner time is packed. Unfortunately, the restaurant is in a basement and has no terrace, which can be really lovely if the weather is fine in Budapest. Govinda is in Vigyazo Ferenc street in the 5th district, the city centre of Budapest. Suitable for big groups too.

Fruccola Vegetarian Restaurant, Budapest

Fruccola Restaurant is Fruccola. Fruccola is a contemporary  vegetarian cafe with International cuisine (French emphasis). Organic meals are also available. Often called a hidden gem by tourists. Delicious, healthy, nutritious meals (sells meals with meat too, but lots of veggie options) at cheap prices. Their motto is ‘Juice makes us happy. Happy is good.’ 🙂 Now there are two in Budapest, one of the Fruccolas is in Arany Janos street, close to Szabadsag square (the Hungarian Parliament, the Hungarian House of Art Nouveau, etc.). The other is on Kristof square, in the very heart of the city, close to Deak square, Vorosmarty square and Elisabeth square.  Nearby attractions: Chain Bridge, Gresham Palace, St Stephen Basilica, Cafe Gerbeaud, Vaci utca shopping street, Vigado Concert Hall.

Birs Bistro, Vegetarian Diner Budapest

Birs Bistro is a charming family run bistro with a tiny art gallery in Raday street – much favoured by locals (which is also a sign  that the prices are affordable). Birs Bistro is close to the Petofi Bridge end of the pedestrian only Raday street (rather than the more famous Liberty Bridge and the Central Market Hall). Anyway, Raday street is a restaurant zone with about a dozen of various dining places. Birs Bistro may be a good choice if you are walking to the Palace of Arts (MUPA) in Budapest or Ludwig Museum (the scenic tram number 2 is close by the river Danube)

Edeni Vegan Restaurant, Budapest

Edeni Vegan Restaurant might be a good choice if you walked down from the Buda Castle on the Castle Hill to the river Danube by Batthyany square (M2 metro station). Big favourite amongst local vegetarians. In fair weather you can enjoy the terrace. Prices are more than reasonable.

Hummus Bar, Vegetarian Eatery Budapest

Hummus Bar in several places, e.g. near Kalvin square (M3 metro stop) or in Oktober 6 street – Hummus Bar sells good vegetarian food at cheap prices. The bar is not fancy, but clean, fresh, fast and decent. Not a place to chase if you are looking for a nice vegetarian restaurant but if you are in the neighbourhood because of your accommodation or the Budapest attractions nearby (Central Market HallLiberty Bridge, National Museum), it may be a good place. Mind you, the ‘Hummus Bar’ in Kertesz street by Liszt Ferenc square is not part of the Budapest Hummus Bar chain and regularly gets lower rates.

Bocadillo Cafe, Vegetarian Restaurant Budapest

Bocadillo Cafe – close to Astoria square (M2 metro station) – is on Karoly korut in the 7th district. This vegetarian cafe offering sandwiches and salads is an ideal breakfast place or a quick fix for the hungry soul. Cozy place with a nice terrace outside and free wifi. Nearby attractions: Dohany Street Synagogue, the old Jewish quarter, Urania Cinema, Parisian Courtyard (Parizsi udvar), Elisabeth Bridge, Vaci utca shopping street.
